My Top 10 Favorite Lyrics

Music is a good way to express our feelings. In fact, there’s no day in our lives that we don’t sing. We do it everyday. wherever we are, with whatever we do. And I believe everyone of us has our own favorite lines from our favorite songs.

I listed some of my favorite lyrics from random songs. This list is incomplete though. I just couldn’t put everything since I had to include only 10. So I sorted out the “best ones” for me and yes, I know that there are many other good lyrics and quotes out there but I felt like I had to write these down. Here they are, in no particular order:

“Everybody here is living life in fear of falling out of line
Tearing lives apart and breaking lots of hearts just to pass the time
And the eyes get red in the back of your head, this place will make you blind
Put it all behind me and I’ll be just fine” – Back Home by Yellowcard. My favorite band. Most of their songs were my inspirations for the past years. And until now I still listen to them.

“I should have known that you’d be here again
Why do broken hearts hold on to broken friends?
Not everything that’s good was meant to last
But if it never was, it never had a chance”
So Long by New Years Day. I like this band. I used to listen to their old materials and I’d say that lyrics are the best part of their compositions. Ashley Costello is one of my favorite female vocalists.

“Goodbye doesn’t mean forever
Let me tell you, goodbye doesn’t mean
We’ll never be together again
Though we may be so far apart
You still will have my heart” – Goodbye Girl by Bread. Emotional song. It reminds me of my father (rest in peace dad). He played it many times before when I was a kid. Still it never gets old.

“The things that I’ve loved, the things that I’ve lost
The things I’ve held sacred that I’ve dropped
I won’t lie no more, you can bet
I don’t want to learn what I’ll need to forget” – Doesn’t Remind Me by Audioslave. I think the lyrics refer to a past relationship. And it’s nice to see how Chris Cornell used metaphors here.

“If it’s not real
You can’t hold it in your hand
You can’t feel it with your heart
And I won’t believe it
But if it’s true
You can see it with your eyes
Oh, even in the dark
And that’s where I want to be” – Brick By Boring Brick by Paramore. This part of the song really sinks into me. Somehow means that the truth will set everyone free.

“I’d rather, her, hear the truth
Than hurt her with a lie”– I Can’t Find The Words To Say Goodbye by David Gates. Beautiful. What more can I say? I like that stanza.

“Gather moments while you may
Collect the dreams you dream today
Remember, will you remember
The times of your life?” – Times Of Your Life by Paul Anka. For me, every verse of this song is substantial but I just picked out the best part. It’s full of hope and uplifting as well.

“I know a place we’ll be together
And stay this young forever
They won’t know who we are” – Let Me Take You There by Plain White T’s. An escape from reality. I could listen to this from time to time.

“Can’t you see that everybody goes through
the same thing, at different times?
In all the ways that you can say we’re different
You’re wrong, we’re alike.” – Stare Like You’ll Stay by Circa Survive. I like quotes from CS songs but I chose this one because of its meaning. Simply implies that nobody’s perfect. We’re only human and we occasionally make mistakes.

“We swing and we sway as this tiny voice
In my head starts to sing
“You’re safe, child, you are safe
You’re safe child, you are safe” – My Blue Heaven by Taking Back Sunday. I remember singing this line when I was drunk. The lyrics doesn’t sound so deep and in the song, there are actually more meaningful verses other than this one. But this has got me.
